Mileful ("the app", "we", "us") is an iOS application published by Aidar LLC ("the company"). This policy describes what data the app collects, how it's used, and your rights over it.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Data you enter into the app
When you use Mileful, you enter or import data such as:
- Trip details: start and end addresses, dates, times, distances, parking fees, toll fees, trip type, purpose, and notes.
- Vehicle information: vehicle name, make, model, year, odometer readings.
- Settings: country, mileage rate preferences, custom trip purposes.
This data is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
1.2 iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud, Mileful syncs your data to your private iCloud (CloudKit) database so it stays consistent across your devices and survives deleting and reinstalling the app. Important properties of this design:
- The data lives in your iCloud account, under your Apple ID, protected by Apple's iCloud security. Apple's privacy policy governs iCloud storage: apple.com/legal/privacy.
- We (Aidar LLC) cannot read, access, or export your private database. There is no Mileful server, and the app never transmits your data to us.
- If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for Mileful in iOS Settings, the app continues to work fully offline with on-device data only.
- To remove the iCloud copy, delete Mileful's data under iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
1.3 Location data (auto-tracking)
Mileful includes an optional, opt-in auto-tracking feature that uses your device's location services to detect and record drives. If you enable it:
- Location coordinates are read by your device's GPS while a trip is being detected and recorded. With background tracking enabled, this can happen while the app is not on screen — iOS shows the standard location indicator whenever this occurs.
- Recorded routes and the start/end addresses derived from them are stored with your trips — on your device and, if iCloud sync is on, in your private iCloud database. They are never transmitted to us (there is no Mileful server) and are never sold or shared. The one exception is Apple's own Maps service, which the app uses to look up an address or align a recorded route to roads — see 1.4 below.
- Auto-tracking is off by default. You can disable it at any time in the app's Settings or by revoking location permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services; the app remains fully usable with manual trip entry.
1.4 Data sent to Apple MapKit
Mileful uses Apple MapKit — the mapping service built into iOS — for maps, address lookup, and route calculation. Location data is sent to Apple MapKit when:
- you type an address, or the app suggests address completions;
- the app calculates a driving route between two addresses;
- the app looks up the street address where a recorded drive started or ended (reverse geocoding); or
- the app aligns a recorded GPS route to roads for a cleaner map.
Apple's own privacy policy governs this data: apple.com/legal/privacy. We do not receive or store anything from these MapKit queries beyond the result returned to the app on your device, and MapKit is not used for advertising or tracking.
1.5 Diagnostic logs (bug reports — optional, user-initiated)
To help us fix problems, Mileful keeps a small on-device diagnostic log: a capped list of technical events the app records as it runs — app version, iOS version, device model, counts (e.g. "808 route points", "12 trips imported"), and error categories. This log contains no trip locations, addresses, vehicle names, or notes — nothing that identifies you or where you went.
The log stays on your device and is never sent automatically. It leaves your device only if you choose to send it: when you tap Settings → Report a Bug, the app shows you exactly what the report contains, and you send it yourself via a pre-filled email (or the iOS share sheet). We receive it only because you chose to send it — the app has no server and uploads nothing on its own.
2. Information we do NOT collect
To be explicit:
- We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number.
- We do not collect payment information. The app is distributed through the Apple App Store; any payment (if applicable) is processed by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- We do not use third-party analytics (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Apple App Analytics SDK).
- We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA). The app does not show ads.
- We do not use crash reporting SDKs (no Sentry, no Bugsnag). Apple may provide aggregate crash reports through its standard developer tools, but those reports are anonymized by Apple and contain no personal data.
- We do not operate any server that receives your data. iCloud sync runs entirely between your devices and your Apple account.
- We do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise distribute your data, because we never have it.
3. How your data is used
Because your data stays under your control (on device + your private iCloud), "use" of your data is entirely controlled by you within the app:
- View, edit, and organize your trips.
- Categorize trips for tax-deduction purposes.
- Compute mileage deductions based on the current IRS (or CRA, or SAT) rates stored in the app.
- Export trips to a CSV file using the in-app export feature. The exported file is saved to your device's temporary storage and shared via iOS's standard share sheet — where it goes after that is up to you.
4. Your rights
Because we never receive your data:
- Access: All your data is on your device. Open the app to see it.
- Export: Use the in-app CSV export to download all your trip data.
- Deletion: Delete individual trips in the app, or delete the app and remove Mileful's iCloud data (iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage) to erase everything. We hold no copy — there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
- Correction: Edit any trip directly in the app.
If you are a California resident (CCPA / CPRA) or in the European Union (GDPR), the rights granted to you under those regulations are honored automatically by virtue of the app's design: there is no personal data held by us that we could disclose, port, correct, or delete on your behalf.
5. Children's privacy
Mileful is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone — including children — because, as stated above, we do not collect data.
6. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where the changes are significant, surface a notice in the app on next launch. Continuing to use the app after a change indicates acceptance of the new policy.
